The Fujifilm Group Green Policy

http://www.fujifilm.com/about/sustainability/green_policy/outline/index.html

Instituted on April 1, 2002 / Revised on April 1, 2006

Based on our Fujifilm Group Green Policy, we are committed to conducting business activities that can contribute to 'sustainable development' of the earth, mankind, and companies.

We at Fujifilm Group believe that “sustainable development” of the earth, mankind, and companies in the 21st century is an issue that must be addressed with the highest priority. Based on this belief, we have prepared the Fujifilm Group Green Policy as a common medium-term policy statement for the Group. Under our Green Policy concept, we aim to attain customer satisfaction as well as maintain and increase the trust of all our stakeholders while also contributing to sustainable development by working to attain a high level of product quality and environmental quality in products, services, and other corporate activities.
To this end, our Green Policy sets nine priority targets.

Concern for the Environment in Expansion of Growth Businesses

The Fujifilm Group has designed the current period as our Second Foundation. As we promote the development of strategic businesses, which include medical, and life sciences, documents, graphic arts, materials for flat panel displays, electronic materials, ink materials for inkjet printers as well as other high-performance materials, optical disks, and other products, we are m

oving ahead with the development of new factories and research centers and expanding existing capacity.
Under these circumstances, based on the philosophy we have adhered to since the foundation of the Company, which is “concern for and protection of the natural environment are the foundation of corporate activities,” we are continuing to implement a range of policies, including “showing concern for the natural environment (attaining harmony among human beings and nature)” and “ensuring safety regarding chemical substance content.”

Strengthening Systems for Responding to Laws and Regulations

To respond appropriately to the RoHS directive and other legal regulations, Fujifilm holds an International Conference for Environmental Officers and has compiled a Master Database for Product Environmental Information. Through the conference and database, Fujifilm Group members around the world can share expert information on environmental matters and respond globally to environmental requirements.
In addition, taking green procurement one step further, we have our suppliers undertake self-surveillance and have introduced electronic surveillance, which involves having suppliers report on the results of their checks on chemical substance content via the Internet. This approach has enabled us to establish systems for the management of content chemicals all along the supply chain.
In management systems, virtually all our factories and offices obtained ISO 14001 certification for their environmental management systems in 2004. Regarding quality management, previously, only our factories and a portion of R&D facilities had obtained ISO 9001 certification, but in December 2005, the divisions of the Fujifilm headquarters and nine Group companies made the transition to the 2004 version of ISO 14001 and simultaneously obtained ISO 9001 certification. As a result, we have been able to integrate our systems for environmental and quality management and are moving toward attaining an even higher level of customer satisfaction.

Promoting Communication with Stakeholders

Each year, we hold the Environmental Forum for the presentation of practical examples of initiatives related to the latest environmental technologies, environment-friendly products, activities and policies for improving the natural environment, and legal regulations in Japan and overseas. The objective of this forum is to share technology and information related to the environment within the Fujifilm Group and increase “environmental quality.” Year by year, the scope of participants from Group companies has expanded, but we are planning to enlarge the scope even further to improve the forum's effectiveness.
Also, as part of our communication and information disclosure activities, we hold Environmental Dialogue Meetings in cooperation with governmental institutions, principally at our production facilities for promoting communication with regional communities.
Going forward, we intend to proactively conduct communication programs both within the Company and with groups outside the Company.

The Fujifilm Group Green Policy

In April 2002, the Group established its Fujifilm Group Green Policy containing medium-term environmental policies. The objective of the policy is to attain a high level of “environmental quality” in our products, services, and corporate activities throughout the Group.

Basic Policy

http://www.fujifilm.com/about/sustainability/green_policy/policy/index.html

“Sustainable development” is the most important issue for our planet, the human race, and all business entities in the 21st century. Fujifilm Group companies around the world aim to stay at the forefront of efforts to attain this goal in terms of environmental, economic, and social aspects. We will strive for customer satisfaction as well as our contribution to “sustainable development” by achieving high “environmental quality” in products, services, and corporate activities.

Action Guidelines

  1. We will promote environmental burden reduction and product safety assurance with the following three items in mind:
    • (1) Our efforts are pursued throughout all corporate activities.
    • (2) Our efforts are pursued throughout the entire product life cycle.
    • (3) We give overall consideration to economic and social implications.
  2. We will improve our chemical substance management to reduce environmental risks.
  3. We will comply with legal regulations as well as Fujifilm Group regulations, standards, and requirements that are individually agreed on.
  4. We will strengthen partnerships with our business partners, collaborate in government and industrial activities, and actively participate in community activities.
  5. We will actively give full disclosure of the information regarding our involvement in and accomplishment of various environmental activities to all associated individuals, including local communities, governments, and Fujifilm Group company employees, to facilitate open communication.
  6. We will heighten the environmental awareness of every Fujifilm Group employee through employee education, so that we can fortify our infrastructure to face the challenges posed by environmental issues in the future.

System for Implementing the Green Policy

Environmental Education

http://www.fujifilm.com/about/sustainability/green_policy/education/index.html

The Fujifilm Group promotes environmental education to provide all employees of the Fujifilm Group, in Japan and overseas, with an in-depth awareness of basic knowledge regarding the environment, which is fundamental to environmental activities, and the Fujifilm Group Green Policy.

General Curriculum for All Employees

General environmental education in Japan, focused on e-learning programs, was completed in fall 2005 for employees of Fujifilm and other Fujifilm Group companies. For employees of Group companies overseas, general environmental education began in mid-2005 for all staff, and about 6,700 employees are scheduled to finish this course by June 2006. In conducting training overseas, one of the issues is the language used in the educational materials. Thus far, we have completed texts in English, Chinese, German, Portuguese and Spanish. We are now preparing versions in Dutch and French.
In 2005, we completed a revised version of our domestic e-learning system with upgraded functions that includes a new system with environmental education texts incorporating the latest information. This system went online in May 2006. Looking forward, we plan to have all Group companies switch to the new textbooks and continue to make improvements and upgrades in the content of the course and educational systems. Through these educational activities, we want each and every staff member throughout the world to have a good environmental awareness and thereby strengthen our foundation for implementing initiatives for addressing environmental issues.
